Overcome Fear and Axiety

24 Bible Verses to Help You Combat Fear and Anxiety

Chaos, brokenness, and fear are not new things for this world, but these days, they seem to be the recurring description for our “breaking news” headlines. There is no hiding the fact that we are all broken people living in a world ravished by the effects of our own sin. We need hope! We are in desperate need of a savior–a redeemer!

Good News!

Jesus is our only hope! Jesus is our Savior! Jesus is our Redeemer! Because of what Jesus has done for us, we can live lives full of faith, hope, love, and joy–no matter our circumstances.

I hope that you will read the collection of verses below and be reminded that we, as Christ followers, do not have to be overcome with worry or fear. But, instead, we can look up to see the One who is forever faithful and supremely sovereign.

God’s Word

Lamentations 3: 21-24 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, says my soul, therefore I will hope in Him.

Psalms 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Isaiah 43:1 But now thus says the Lord, He who created you, O Jacob, He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its water roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

Zephaniah 3:17 The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty One who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love.

Luke 12: 22-26 And he said to his disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?

Psalm 56:3-4 When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Philippians 4: 6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

Encouragement

This past week, I read a quote from The Daily Grace Company’s Ruth Study and it really encouraged my heart:

“God’s greatest work is often done in the bleakest of situations. The darkest night of the crucifixion brought forth the bright light of redemption. We can trust Him in our situations as well. We might not know what He is doing, but we can be sure that He is working for us. We might not know what the future holds, but we can know that the One who holds the future is holding us.”

It is my prayer that you would be encouraged by God’s unchanging truth today!
