Things to do in Provo Canyon

Bridal Veil Falls – Provo Canyon

A few weeks ago, we grabbed the kids, packed a quick picnic lunch, and set out on our adventure for the day– Bridal Veil Falls.

How we got to Bridal Veil Falls

We left Salt Lake City around 9 am and started down I-15 South until we hit exit 272. We got off of the exit and turned left onto 800 North. After about 3 miles, we turned right onto Old Provo Canyon Road. After about a half mile, we arrived at the Bridal Veil Falls parking lot.

We chose to hike on a Saturday morning in late May so we were expecting it to be pretty crowded. The lot was pretty full, but we were able to find a great parking spot right at the entrance to the walking trail. We noticed that there was a steady flow of people leaving and coming which made it easy to find parking. Huge win!

Bridal Veil Falls Hike with Young Kids

In our group, we had four adults, a toddler (2 year old), and an infant (4 month old). Our toddler was happy to walk the entire hike, and we took the stroller for our four month old.

The entrance to the trail was so beautiful –so much green! On the immediate left, we could see and hear the rushing water of the Provo River as we walked, and the views of the canyon on our right were absolutely breathtaking! We loved that the trees offered a lot of shade on both sides of the wide walking trail.

There were people of all ages. We saw moms with strollers, families on bikes, teenagers on skateboards, couples strolling leisurely hand in hand, and some serious backpackers. I loved that the trail was newly paved and wide enough to accommodate all of the traffic without making us feel cramped as we walked.

After an easy 10 minute walk, we arrived to the base of the waterfall. The view was incredible! My toddler loved playing with all of the rocks and there was a tiny trickle of water here and there which made things even more exciting for him! Off to the left of the base was the beginning of the dirt trail that would lead you to Upper Falls. There were also some brave individuals climbing straight up the waterfall via the scattered slippery rocks. More power to them–it was fun for us to watch from a distance!

Bridal Veil Falls Picnic Area

We decided to take in the views from the base of the waterfall instead of climbing all the way up to Upper Falls. When we finished the hike (more like a walk), we packed up the car and drove across the street to Nunn’s Park for a fun picnic lunch.

Nunn’s Park is a popular camping spot, but we found a free picnic table by the river that had a small playground for my son to enjoy. We enjoyed the shade and took in the amazing views of the canyon as we ate. After lunch, my son took a few quick trips down the playground slides and threw a few more rocks into the river. Did I mention that he loves rocks!?

Later, we took a quick drive up to Sundance Resort before heading back home. The views at the top of the mountain were stunning! All in all, we had such a fun day, and I cannot wait to try this same route in the fall! Stay tuned for an update about Bridal Veil Falls when the fall colors are at their peak. Can’t wait for that!
